Fortress Gives - Giants of Africa

Last week, Masai Ujiri of the Toronto Raptors hosted the 3rd Annual Giants of Africa Gala in Toronto, in memory of Nelson Mandela. MC’ed by Rod Black, the event brought out influencers in the community and sport. Speakers on the evening included Clara Hughes, Mandela’s grandson, Kweku Mandela and Amadou Fall, the executive director of NBA Africa. Proceeds from the event went to support Sick Kids Hospital, the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital and Ujiri’s not-for-profit organization, Giants of Africa.
Giants of Africa is focused on creating a pathway for youth through sports. “Sport has the power to change the world,” Mandela, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, once said. “It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. It speaks to youth in a language they understand. Sport can create hope where once there was only despair.”

Avid sports fans, passionate about youth & community, Jawad Rathore and Vince Petrozza have been able to direct their enthusiasm to charitable projects and donations that help disadvantaged children participate in recreational and amateur sports across Canada. Now, for the second straight year, Fortress is proud to be a pillar partner of Giants of Africa and to have the opportunity to make an impact globally. We are honoured to support this organization and on this evening brought out some of our guests to take in the inspirational event.
